| Under the background of globalization, multicultural education has been acknowledged universally by more and more countries. It received widespread attention in nations. Implementation of multicultural education is related to improve the quality of education throughout a country, as well as spread and develop the multi-ethnic cultural. In some way, it plays a significant role in harmonious and stable social lives, even though the peace and development of the whole world. The United States has a quite complex ethnic composition, which prompt itself to be one of the important birthplace of multicultural education. with the expanding of multicultural education, American society got remarkable achievements in changing the traditional mainstream values, respecting for cultural differences, enhancing the cultural status of minorities, promoting equity in education. There are many desirable practices and valuable experience in the primary school. However, previous academic researchers paid less attention to multicultural education of elementary school, which involved seldom investigation on implementing multicultural education in basic education, it is useless for us evaluating the multicultural education in American basic education comprehensively, and gathering the best for China’s basic education.In the paper, I learnt the experience and lessons from previous studies, and took the approaches of multicultural educational implementation as the breakthrough point to analyze profoundly by literature analysis, historical analysis or case analysis. After recollected the progress and the characteristics of multicultural educational implementation in primary school of United States, I took two examples to explore concrete measures of American elementary schools improving multiracial students’knowledge, skills, attitudes and Values, one case is known as P.S.77Lower Lab School in New York; And the other is known as Glen ridge Elementary School in Clayton. I clarified the significance of multicultural education in enhancing multicultural awareness and personality development among children of different nationalities; summarized the experience and characteristics of American elementary multicultural education, which is a form of Education that affected by social environment of the United States, by building a multicultural environment on campus, carrying out multicultural curriculum and practices in school education, so as to promote understanding and respecting between different cultural groups, improve their academic achievement, and the quality of education in American elementary education. After analyzed the he problems which were faced by the American elementary schools in the process of multicultural education implementation, three revelations are drawn:First of all, in the process of the implementation of the multicultural education, we should correctly deal with the issue of national "duality"; Second, we should attach great importance to the significance and value of ethnic culture courses; The last but not the least, we should make diversification of multicultural education methods. This study seeks to provide theoretical guidance and practical basis for enhancing the quality of minority education, promoting the popularity of equal access to education, offering references for setting multicultural curriculum in the implementation of education for ethnic minorities. |
