Cooperative Learning also known as Collaborative Learning or Learning Together,which is student-centered and emphasizes the construction of knowledge andcommunication between students and teachers, is widely used in classroom teachingaround the world. Due to its distinctive originality and scientific theories of cooperativelearning, the application of Cooperative Learning in English teaching not only makes upfor the inadequacy of traditional teaching and improves students’ English practicalapplication ability, but also improves the students’ academic performance and theircomprehensive qualities. Therefore, the cooperative learning has been widely used andstudied in the classroom at home and abroad. However, the students of vocational schoolsin China have a poor performance due to lack of excellent teachers, poor foundation andinsufficient attention. In order to improve English teaching quality in vocational schools,comply with the demand of curriculum reform, and improve the students’ English level, thestudy of Cooperative Learning in English class of vocational schools is very important.Through the survey found that compared with traditional teaching, cooperativelearning under the form of teaching is more advantageous to build the classroomatmosphere of the democracy, equality, cooperation, harmonious relationship betweenteacher and students, stimulate students’ learning enthusiasm, promote the studentsmotivated and responsible to autonomous learning. But there are some defects aboutcooperative learning. Some teachers think that cooperative learning have some difficultiesat present because it increased the difficulty of teaching management, also has a smallnumber of students think that cooperative learning is bad for their studies because it holdup their learning time.In order to better carry out cooperative learning in secondary vocational Englishteaching, based on the practical research, the author puts forward the cooperative learningshould follow the basic principles. At the same time should also be implemented fromthree aspects: reducing the responsibility diffusion effects of cooperative learning process,effective control of cooperation, mutual combination of cooperative learning andtraditional teaching.
