Research On The Citizenship Education Of Chinese College Students

In the construction of China’s modernization, as the establishment of the socialist market economy system and the advancement of political democratization, there is a growing demand for democracy and the ruling-by-law thought, as well as for all citizens actively participating in social public life. In the process of such an important transition, the quality of citizen has become the most important guarantee for social development. Although the current cultural qualities of the Chinese people has widely improved, however, because of historical and traditional reasons, civic consciousness has not been popular among Chinese people, and the ability of citizens’participating in social affairs still needs to be improved. Although the traditional moral education has certain advantages and still plays a positive role, in terms of the modern citizenship education,it cannot meet the needs of China’s building a prosperous, democratic, civilized, harmonious, freedom, equality, and legality social.As an important social group, College students are the backbone of trevival of nationhood,their citizenship will directly affect the process of the Chinese dream Therefore, enhancing the citizen literacy, is an important duty of modern higher education. Nevertheless, the present citizenship education is not very ideal. Problems and deviations still exist in education.A lof of factors affect the college students’improvement of the citizen literacy, especially the parts of civic morality, citizen rights and obligations, political participation of citizen. Consequently Chinese college students are lack of the awareness of citizenship, political participation, and the ability to participate in national affairs management.Aiming at the existing shortage of present college students’citizen education, guided by Marxism, and adopted the methods of literature research, interdisciplinary study and comparative research, this paper made a detailed analysis of the origin and development of civic education for college students, analyzed the differences of citizen meaning between domestic and overseas countries. It also expounded the necessity of citizen education for college students through analyzing the citizen education, ideological and political education of college students. Moreover, it analyzed the current situation of college students’civil quality and existing problems of present college students’ citizen education on the base of taking examples of citizenship education from foreign countries. By combining Chinese present conditions from the aspects of society, school and family, this paper put forward the author’s views and opinions.
