This paper is concentrated on one of the curriculum design models for high-ability learners, the Parallel Curriculum, to explore the internal relationship between gifted education and curriculum design, to compare and contrast the Parallel Curriculum model with other curriculum design models, and to take a glimpse into its application in classrooms. By researching different kinds of curriculum design models for gifted education, it is intended to enhance our understanding about gifted children and gifted education, draw people’s attention to students’attention and care, and develop a curriculum model for China’s gifted education. The paper provides a comprehensive study on the Parallel Curriculum, from the perspective of gifted education, curriculum design and differentiated instruction, through literature analysis, comparative analysis of the method, case studies and other methods. There are four main parts of this paper:First, the introduction part introduces the causes and significance of the topics chosen, definition, related research, research methods and the development process. The second part starts from the main three parts, the essential definition, the design framework and the four parallels.
