How to provide the gifted and talented children with appropriate curriculum has been oneof the core issues in the field of gifted and talented education in the United States since1980s.The Integrated Curriculum Model, proposed by American Scholar of gifted education—JoyceVan Tassel-Baska, has won worldwide reputation in last28years. At present,however,thedomestic research of curriculum for the gifted child is still lacking, especially the study of theIntegrated Curriculum Model. This paper would introduce and analyze the IntegratedCurriculum Model as a whole on the basis of the existing review of the relevant literature andin which the methods of philological, comparative, historical and case analysis are employed.Moreover, this thesis also aims at arousing scholars’ attention on this issue and encouragingreflection on curriculum of gifted and talented children in China.This paper consists of five parts: Part one puts forward the key questions being studied inthis thesis, then reviews the relevant literatures in America and China, and finally presents theaims and values, questions and main content, research methods and main concepts of the thesis,and structure of the paper, etc; Part two describes the background and history of the IntegratedCurriculum Model, including the social background and the scholar’s personal researchbackground; Part three introduces its content and its characters by comparing it with someother curriculum models in the field; Part four introduces and analyzes its practice andapplication through the case study of the work of curriculum developing in the center of giftededucation in William and Mary; Part five draws an conclusion covering the background andhistory, the content and characteristics,the application draw from the cases, and then drawssome lessons for developing domestic curriculum for gifted and talented children, finally putsforward the questions that should be further studied in the future.
