| Martial arts are feasible to be used to cultivate our nation’s spirit and tocontinue our nation’s culture. As primary school is especially an important basefor education, the teaching of martial arts in primary schools is an essentialapproach to inherit and promote Chinese martial arts and traditional culture. Thetextbook of martial arts is the key element to determine the effect of martial artsteaching, which reflects the value of wushu exercise and the function of wushuteaching. Furthermore, good implementation of the textbook reflects the learningand spreading of martial arts in primary schools. Shanghai’s wushu textbookSports and Fitness (second edition) proposes that there should be a shift fromfocusing on traditional sports items to both inhering prominent folk sports andintroducing newly-developed sports in the teaching content so as to achieve thesustainability of sports teaching and the inheritance and development of folksports. This allows us to see that making the most of school education to letmartial arts really enter the classrooms and the textbook fully implemented is theopportunity for the popularity and development of martial arts.This paper employs the literature, questionnaire, mathematical statistics,logical analysis and other research methods, combining the quantitative researchand the qualitative analysis. The wushu textbook of primary schools in ShanghaiSongxiang District is the subject for the study, in which the content of martial artsteaching has been explored and the current situation of martial artsimplementation has been investigated. In the end, it concludes major problemsand put forwards relevant solutions.The study concludes that the elementary martial arts teaching in SongxiangDistrict is not ideal; some primary schools hardly set up wushu course or th eamount of the course is very little. Through a variety of research methods, thisresearch discovers that the problems exists in perspectives such as the martial artsteaching content is in need of reform, the emphasis from the school is not enough,the majority of martial arts teachers are not professional, the comprehensiveeducation function of martial arts classes for primary students is not wellcombined to ideological education and so on. In the view of above reasons, this paper attempts to propose the followingenvisagement of wushu teaching reform:(1) The textbook for martial artsteaching should be adapted to meet the physiological and psychologicalcharacteristics of students of all ages, from easy and simple to difficult andcomplex, retaining the essence of the traditional routine, highlighting the positiveproperties like self-defense, fitness, appreciation and so on, strengthening theconstruction of the martial arts etiquette and the moral education;(2) Educationauthorities and school leaders should pay greater attention to martial arts teaching,periodically organize martial arts competitions, and promote the implementationof martial arts teaching and the propaganda of martial arts culture.(3) Strengthenthe building of teachers’ team: improving the teachers’ wushu competence andquality and their professionalism.(4) Teachers should focus on teaching the skillsof body-building and methods of inhering wushu culture, develop students’interests in learning martial arts, and nourish their spirit of bearing hardship andtoughness, benefiting the promotion of Chinese martial arts in physicaleducation. |
