Now autonomous learning strategy has become a hot issue in education researchfield, it can promote the realization of autonomous learning, and improve the efficiencyof students’ learning. Nowadays, in many countries and regions new teachingapproaches have been adopted, and theories of learning strategies have been established,and remarkable results in teaching practice have been achieved. China’s currentcurriculum reform emphasizes on students’ learning, and how to learn autonomously,and carrying it out effectively in English classroom teaching process is the demand putforward in curriculum reform. Development and cultivation of autonomous learning isan important objective in the process of language learning, but the traditional way ofteaching cannot encourage students to learn autonomously which has brought greattrouble to English teaching.Based on the requirements of new curriculum standard, this thesis analyzed theapplication of autonomous learning in English teaching process, and explored thecurrent senior high school teachers and students’ understanding and application ofautonomous learning. This thesis analyzes the application of senior high school studentson autonomous learning, and finds that the students have a feature that they have theirown characteristics which cannot be ignored.For the study, the author firstly introduces the concept and connotation ofautonomous learning briefly, and expounds the strategy, and its characteristics, and theautonomous learning theory.The main part of this thesis is the investigation of senior high school students usingautonomous learning strategies in the process of English learning. Investigation showsthat although the senior high school students understand that learning English well isvery important, and has strong external motivation to learn English well, but their planfor English study is not very clear, and also they lack confidence to learn English well.Students’ interests in English learning is suppressed by the old education mode, and traditional ways of learning constraints them from learning English well, their learningstyles and learning habits in English learning need further improvement; The authorinterviews and investigates senior high school teachers, and analyzes the currentsituation and existing problems, such as the teaching mode is still of the traditional kind,the education approach is monotonous, the teaching idea is not new, the arrangementsof teaching contents still pay more attention to the knowledge and learning by rote,not emphasizing on cultivating students’ autonomous; A few teachers do not understandwhat autonomous learning is and why to learn autonomously, not to mention guidanceand education of students’ autonomous learning; Their strategy consciousness inteaching activities performance is weak, and knowledge reserve is clearly not enough.In this thesis, the author, based on the survey and interview of senior high schoolstudents and teachers, analyzes the current situation and identifies the problems ofautonomous learning strategies carried out by high school students in the process ofEnglish learning and autonomous learning strategies taught by the teachers in theprocess of English teaching. The author puts forward the corresponding “teaching” and“learning” strategies of cultivating students’ autonomous learning. In order to improvethe students’ autonomous learning, these strategies are based on cultivating learningstrategies. The author puts forward corresponding measures to help senior high schoolstudents improve their ability of autonomous learning, and make high school teachersimproving students’ autonomous learning ability.
