Inquiry learning is one of the important ways to active learning, which is thedevelopment trend of international science education and the basic concept andrequirement in our biology course.“Compulsory Education Biology CurriculumStandards (2011Edition)” is not only will be listed as one of the ten majorthemes in science inquiries, but also will be an important part of the contents ofknowledge. While textbook exploration activities in the design and arrangementare concrete manifestation of “Advocating Inquiry Learning”. After severalyears of continuous exploration and research, combined with the actual teachingsituation, the People’s Education Press,based on the previous edition textbookrevision and perfection,published “Compulsory Education Textbook–Biology”(grade seven) in2012and put into use in the spring of2013.So analyzing andresearching the teaching materials have both important theoretical and practicalsignificance, at the same time, which is a pressing matter of the moment.In this paper, based on the basic theory of inquiry learning, by reading the aspectof basic education reform policies, laws and regulations in our country, inaccordance with the “new curriculum” curriculum ideas, objectives andrequirements, research activities of the person teaching edition “Biology”(gradeseven) in the new textbook are analyzed and researched carefully. First of all, the37inquiry activities in the new teaching material are analyzed,summarized andgeneralize the basic characteristics. Then respectively from the quantity, type,level, goal, ability of dimensions of PEP “Biology”(grade seven), new and oldtwo textbook inquiry activities carried on the comparative studies in terms ofquality and quantity. Through to the new and old two inquiry activities in theteaching material analysis of the similarities and differences, this paper discussesthe new curriculum idea and scientific inquiry in the new teaching material of theinquiry activity and summarizes the new teaching material in the specific advantages and characteristics of inquiry activity, the main conclusions asfollowing:(1)The number of the inquiry activity is compressed and inquiryactivities are deleted some of the low values;(2) Content is updated andimproved, especially for some updates to the data;(3)The design of inquiryactivity pays more attention to the feasibility of inquiry activity and researchmaterials and methods are also improved the flexibility.(4)By much lower ininquiry activity levels, paying more attention to the cultivation of students’scientific inquiry solid foundation, from a certain extent, reduces the difficulty ofthe inquiry activity and the requirements for the students.(5)On the scientificmethod, guiding students explore with more focuses on the improvements ofabilities. And through to the front-line teachers and experts interview andcommunication, understanding the implementation of the inquiry activity, aswell as some of problems encountered in the implementation process, the authorputs forward some suggestions, in order to accurately grasp the characteristics ofinquiry activity teaching and provide the reference for the efficient developmentof inquiry activity, making full use of the textbooks and further mining.
