With the continuous development of Internet technology, the way of accessing toinformation have became more diverse and convenient. Not only does the Internetchange people’s lives but also provide a new way of learning for them. In colleges anduniversities, on-line autonomic learning has also been universally welcomed amongcollege students, which has became one of the important ways ofstudents’extra-curricular self-study. To know the status of current colleges students’ability of network self-study, this paper was designed to investigate into theability of network self-study among colleges students of science and engineering fromthe perspective of metacognitive strategy. It hopes to find the problems in their onlinelearning activities, and then explores some strategies to promote network autonomouslearning ability of college students.Firstly, the questionnaire about the ability of network self-study,which is basedon metacognitive strategy, was designed on the foundation of understanding therelevant concepts and interviewing some students. This questionnaire contains two parts:the first part is the survey of colleges students’ on-line autonomic learning situation; thesecond part investigates the level of metacognitive strategy in on-line autonomiclearning from planning strategy, monitoring strategy and evaluation strategy. Theformal questionnaire scale is confirmed after reliability and validity test.Secondly, the questionnaires were distributed to192present undergraduates fromChongqing Normal University and Chongqing University. The original data then beimported into Excel and SPSS19.0statistical software for statistics analysis. Based onthese, this paper draws research conclusions as followings: On the whole, the situationthat college students can use metacognitive strategies in managing and monitoring theironline autonomic learning is of medium level or slightly above. When it comes to thethree sub-dimensions, the performance of colleges students in evaluation strategy isbetter than in planning strategy and monitoring strategy. From the point of view of thegrade difference, there is no difference in the whole metacognitive strategy and evaluation strategy,but the undergraduates are better than the junior college students inall aspects. In light of monitoring strategy, freshmen tend to be a little better thansophomores.Finally, according to the problems of planning, monitoring and evaluation duringon-line autonomic learning, this paper put forward some strategies that included innerfactor--giving full play to students’ main part effect and outer factor--establishingexternal guarantee mechanism for improving college students’ ability ofnetwork self-study so that it could help college students enhance the effect of networkself-study and make them obtain a satisfying on-line learning experience.
