Based on the context of urbanization, the urban agglomeration as the main form of urbanization in regional development plays an important role, and the research literature on China’s urban population, although more, but on the temporal and spatial distribution of the population still needs further explore. Therefore, on the basis of summary the other scholars’ research, this paper selected ten urban agglomerations for the study, and focused on four typical urban cluster analyses. By comparing the population indicators, this paper fanally selected indicators from four aspects, which are population size, the degree of concentration of population, the extent of changes in population and employment structure, which are fit for analysis of the demographic characteristics of urban agglomerations. With the help of excel and ArcGIS’powerful graphics capabilities, this paper separately measured the demographic features of ten urban agglomerations and four typical urban agglomeration, and then summarized characteristics of populations in urban agglomerations. Further more, the paper explored and verified the temporal evolution of the population, indicating the commonality and individuality in different degree of development, different types, different regions and other conditions. In addition, it applied panel data model to explore the impact of economic variables on demographic variables, considering that the economy played a leading role on the temporal evolution of the population in the development process of China’s urban population, but the development of the economy is not fully matched with the development of population, which is worthy of attention. Finally, this paper summarized the research results and analyzed the inadequacies.
