In recent years,our country has introduced a number of policies and measures inorder to encourage the development of private higher education. However,private collegesare still facing problems like teacher shortage,personnel turnover and brain drain,whichposition them in an unflavored situation to compete with the public universities and to formtheir own differentiators.Teachers are the core resources of private universities. Scholars in China begin tostudy the psychological empowerment level of the teachers in private colleges. They havefound that psychological empowerment is an inner motivation which can stimulateteachers’ impetus and work autonomy. On grounds of this finding, researchers put forwardsome suggestions to deal with private college faculty turnover problem from theperspective of motivation so as to offer a new reference to retain teachers in privatecolleges.Related theories on leadership empowerment and psychological empowerment aresummarized and reviewed systematically in the paper,and a theoretical framework onprivate college leadership empowerment and psychological empowerment is formed basedon the existing research findings. The paper conducts a survey in four private colleges inTianjin,Beijing,Henan and other regions,650questionnaires are issued and475are valid.After testing the reliability and validity of the questionnaire,through an empiricalresearch including factor analysis,correlation analysis and regression analysis,it is foundthat:(1)Leading empowerment scale of private universities in China can be divided intofour dimensions: support,process and results control of personal development,powerdelegation and decision making participation,job instruction and information sharing.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between private colleges leadershipempowerment and teachers’ psychological empowerment, it means private collegeleadership empowerment’s perceptive level influences the level of teachers’ psychologicalempowerment significantly.(3) Various dimensions of private college leadershipempowerment have an overall impact on the teachers’ psychological empowerment,butimpact differences exists on psychological empowerment’s various dimensions, leadershipempowerment’s support,process and results control of personal development dimensionhas an obvious influence on the work meaning dimension of psychological empowerment. Negative correlation exists between leadership empowerment’s personal developmentdimension and psychological empowerment’s self-efficacy. Leadership empowerment’spersonal development,power delegation and decision participation dimension has influenceon psychological empowerment’s work autonomy dimension. Leadership empowerment’spower delegation and decision participation affects significantly psychologicalempowerment’s influence dimension. Leadership empowerment’s personal development,power delegation and decision participation have a remarkable impact on psychologicalempowerment. The impact of leadership empowerment’s process and results control,jobinstruction and information sharing dimension on psychological empowerment is lowcompared with the previous ones.
