With continuous development of higher education theory research, personality theory has increasingly entered into public scene and has been well received. Independent Personality plays a significant role in personal growth. Meanwhile, educators have been paid more attention to cultivating independent personality of college students as well as promoting their mental health development. Besides, independent personality cultivation of college students has also brought about wide attention of numerous ideological and political educators and has become crucial part of higher ideological and political education. The cultivation of independent personality has exerted vital influence in promoting students’ cognitive development and enhancing comprehensive development and quality. Nevertheless, due to a variety of subjective and objective factors, a great number of college students are absent in independent personality which has seriously influenced overall development of college students. In this sense, it is essentially important to improve ideological and political higher education and cultivate independent personality of college students.The dissertation expounds current status of independent personality cultivation of college students in China, analyzes the behaviors and causes of their independent personality absence and probes into effective strategies on how to cultivate independent personality of college students based on the perspective of ideological and political education. It consists of four parts in the dissertation:The first part is introduction, including research background, research significance, research methodology and literature review at home and abroad.The second part is overview of independent personality, which deliberates on the connotations and features of personality and independent personality from the perspectives of western psychology, Chinese traditional culture, ideological and political education, and analyzes the significance of cultivating independent personality of college students.The third part presents current status of independent personality cultivation of college students in China, which makes an overall summary of their achievements and experiences of independent personality cultivation and makes a detailed analysis of their independent personality absence, including poor independent learning and living capacity, inharmonious interpersonal communication, weak social moral values as well as confused ideals and beliefs. Moreover, it demonstrates main causes of independent personality absence of college students which involves impact of diversified values in social transition period, absence of independent personality cultivation in family education and ignorance of independent personality cultivation in school education.The fourth part proposes effective strategies about independent personality cultivation of college students from the aspect of ideological and political education. Firstly, the dissertation establishes three targets of independent personality cultivation of college students, that is, Thoughts, behavior, emotional goals. Secondly, it puts forward four principles of cultivating independent personality of college students, including people-oriented principle, open and innovation principle, comprehensive and coordinated principle, combination of theory with practice. Lastly, it analyze the approaches of independent personality cultivation of college students, which contains developing fundamental function of psychology and health education, crucial function of classroom teaching-oriented, influential function of focusing on campus culture cultivation and advanced function of promoting social practice.
