The vocabulary teaching has been playing a vital role in foreign language teaching. In China, the traditional methods of vocabulary teaching has shifted to multimedia approaches gradually. Traditionally in the English teaching class, a vast amount of teaching time is consumed by the explanation and definition of words. After the students memorize a great number of words, they do not seem to develop their competence of lexical application correspondingly. They still have difficulties when they actually try to use the words in a sentence. In order to respond to the education reform and adapt to the need of modern quality education, teachers must update their teaching ideas and improve their education methods and teaching means, successfully transferring their teaching model from the traditional teacher-centered class mode into student-centered class mode. In class teaching, teachers should realize that students should be in an active status, and they should mobilize the enthusiasm and initiative of students and pay attention to all aspects of students’ development so that students can really become the protagonist of the class. Constructivism is a scientific concept rising from the 1980 s. It advocates the idea of student-centered and it emphasizes that learning is the active construction of knowledge significance. Besides, it argues that the teacher is a powerful helper and promoter for students in the process of meaning construction and the ideas and the current quality education should echo each other at a distance. In a word, it has important significance to the current education reform and worth an in-depth study. To improve vocabulary learning and help students learn better and acquire vocabulary learning strategies, the author conducted a four- month research to make students learn with strategy. Students are from Grade One in the NO.2 High School in Jinzhou. With the teaching activities carried out, the writer attempted to find answers to the questions.1) Is the constructivism teaching method able to motivate the students’ interest in learning English vocabulary?2) Can the constructivism teaching method improve high school students’ English vocabulary learning more effectively?The findings of the research indicate that the constructivist theory strategy is able to improve the students’ English vocabulary learning more effectively. It can also motivate the students’ English vocabulary learning interest.
