The counselor is an important part of college teachers and management team. They are not only the backbone of Ideological and political education, but also the organizers, perpetrators and guidance of higher students’daily ideological and political education. New counselors are the special group of all counselors. They are initial to job positions, heading career adjustments, and being able to cultivate the positive emotion of occupation, which will greatly affect their work enthusiasm and working performances. Good occupational emotions influence counselors’occupation planning and development, the stabilities of counselor teams, and provide good impacts on social evaluation of colleges and universities. However, the studies of new counselors’occupation emotion are still blank. Hence, research on new counselors’occupation emotional has important theoretical and practical significance. In this paper, based on previous studies, using the emotion generation theory in psychology and the cognitive theory of emotion and behavior theory as the theoretical basis of the research, we discusses the formation mechanism of occupation emotion of new counselors. The author collected a data set from 13 new counselors, who were working as counselors in universities of Guangzhou city with no more than 1 year working experience. The author carried several depth interviews, which were recorded and transcribed. From literature review, the author found the situation of new counselors’occupation emotion, namely the occupation identity, job satisfaction, job responsibility, occupation, professionalism and strong sense of honor. They are aware of the significance and value as counselors, feeling satisfied with the conditions and environment for the work, and owning a sense of accomplishment and happiness as well as reflecting their own value of their working position. They are willing to put their whole self into the job. However, new counselors also face difficulties of being misunderstand from the society, families and teachers. Some of them are short of knowledge and ability to be counselors and feeling gap to the requirement of employers. Even, some of them feel lack of occupation development planning, unclear responsibility, and heavy work pressure with the lower income and difficult issues such as position promotion. Therefore, discussion were launched from three factors like the personal factors (values, family, professional knowledge structure, pressure), school factors (roles, responsibilities income, education, management, occupation development), and social factors (social recognition, government policy support). For example, counselors’occupation identity can be influenced by social recognition and family relationship; improper knowledge structure, vague role definition and duties will reduce the counselor’s working performances; too much work pressure, development pressure, and income pressure will weaken the counselors’working satisfaction. To cultivate the emotion of occupation, new counselors need self-identity of work values and proper policies. The gender factor does not influence the formation of new counselor positive emotion of occupation. Identity, sense of responsibility, sense of honor, strong work spirit contribute great much to new counselors’ emotional occupation. Moreover, according to new counselors’occupation problems found from this research, the author gave some feasible suggestion with the perspective of individual, school, and society, making the conclusion sensible and productive.
