In a competitive market economy, the labor force has struggled to become more active to achieve better work efficiency and maximum profits. Those factors are a momentum to attract women out of their families to take part into social activities. It created an increasingly tense conflict between the traditional role of women in a family and their new role in social activities.Recently, sociology research carried out in Vietnam in the field of women and gender equity has a common conclusion that the gap in equity between women and men has the root from low education. In this research, I was consided the influence of education to labor division between wives and husbands in households in Hanoi, Vietnam, using deep interviews and questionnaire. The research has pointed out the following challenges:1. In a modern Vietnamese family, the relation between wife and husband is more equal, the ratio of sharing housework and decision making has increased. However, in urban areas, the ratio of men taking part in housework and child caring is much higher that in rural areas. In fact, over the passed years, improvement in the role of women is still minimal, most women are still in charge of all housework, child and elder caring.2. The education background of women does not have an equal impact on labour division between wives and husbands. Related to division of housework, education background of women does not have a big influence. But related to manufacture and contribution to family incomes or decision of having children and using contraception methods, the higher level of education, the bigger influence of women.3. Traditional concept has the strongest influence to labour division, which is even stronger than education background. The group of women with highest education level has a strong traditional gender orientation as well-educated women want to become a model of social standards.4. Awareness of women on gender equity in general is limited.Legal education and communication in media has not achieved expected outcomes in gender equity and labor division.
