In recent years, with the enrollment of doctoral education increasing, the doctoral education quality gets a lot of publicity. Doctoral students are reserved as talents of academic profession and most of the graduates will enter into university or research institute engaging in research. The doctoral education and its academic training is not only the preparation stage of academic profession, simultaneously is also the mechanism of talent training. It is not only can improve academic’s development of Ph.D. students, but also can make a difference of the development of academic profession. Therefore, the research on academic training of Ph.D. students has important theoretical and practical significance on improving the quality of graduates.This study takes doctoral students from a research university in Shanghai as the research objective, and uses questionnaires and interviews as research methods. This article is on the purpose through studying the present situation and the way of research training in doctor education based on doctoral education as socialization for the professoriate, thus finds out problems in research training of Ph.D. students and submits relevant improvement suggestion. This study shows that majority had not possessed a full-scale knowledge about the academic career. Though some Ph.D. students have a certain understanding of the outer characteristics of the academic profession, but the challenge is that most students lack of the understanding of the internal running mechanism of academic career. And doctoral student’s perception of academic profession to a large extent is through limited observation and communication, lacking of formal instruction. There is some difference of the improvement of academic research ability and the main training mode of academic research ability is though doctoral students’ individual effort under the guidance of a mentor.Finally, this article analyzes the specific existing issues in the process of doctoral students’ academic training from both the contents and the approach. A few recommendations are given with the aim of increasing academic training effect, such as, emphasize on mentors’ supervises, improve institutionalized arrangements, improve doctoral initiative, and create the academic atmosphere.
