The Social Mentality Research Based On Network Buzzwords

Network buzzwords are created by the public, and it is a modern language which is widely used in people’s daily communication and network communication. It is widely present in qq, wechat, weibo, social bbs and other various types of Internet applications. It represents the modern Internet culture; it is closely related to a certain period of politics, economic and culture, It is a concentrated expression of the people thought, and an important channel for people’s express demands. We can say, the network buzzword is a mirror of society, it can not only present the emotional tone of the whole society, but also highlight the social consensus and social values.From previous studies, we can find that Chinese scholars started researches of social mentality long time ago, but few scholars research social mentality from the perspective of network buzzwords. Therefore, this article collects all the network buzzwords with a particular popular year from 2004 to 2013 through websites like Baidu, Sina, Netease, Tencent and Sohu as the total sample. Applying social representation theory and content analysis. social mentality represented by network buzzwords in different periods is systematically analyzed. This article divided social mentality into six analysis categories: national mentality, political mentality, marriage family mentality, class mentality, life mentality and job mentality. The study shows, firstly, in the nation mentality, people not only attach great importance to collective interests, but also concern personal interests, nation mentality contains the sense of collectivism and individualism; People have a weak sense of national pride and lack a sense of security in their heart. Secondly, in the political mentality, people’s political expectation degree and the participation enthusiasm has declined in the last ten years; there was some feelings of questioning, critique, resentment and dissatisfaction with the current social policy. Thirdly, in the marriage and family mentality, people are longing and yearning for marriage and love. But when pursuing love, they also show the lack of the sense of responsibility and the feelings of depression and disappointment. Fourthly, in the class mentality, with the enhancement of self-mockery mentality and sense of relative deprivation, people produced the mentality of a hatred for wealth people and public official, and the class mentality presents the negative state completely; the groups that people concerned have changed——from the bottom class to focus on the upper group. Fifthly, in the life mentality, people’s life mentality focuses on the entertainment and seeking something new and special, which shows a positive attitude in general. Sixthly, in the career mentality, it shows the characteristics that the hope and the confidence co-exist, and the loss and the helplessness co-exist.Through the network of buzzwords, we can be told that people’s social mentality is both positive and negative over the past ten years, while social reasons which triggered formation of all kinds of social mentality are the following: firstly, the network media likes a double-edged sword. Its interactive characteristics create the positive social mentality of entertainment, seeking something new and special. Its character of opening has amplified people’s bad mood, and promotes the formation of negative social mentality; Secondly, it solidifies the social class, and the bottom group is in the majority, which intensified the social mentality of a hatred for wealth people and public officials; thirdly, The lack of social trust increased the social psychological imbalance; fourthly, when faced with belief crisis, people strengthen their subject consciousness, which promotes the formation of undesirable social mentality; fifthly, the imperfect social security system make people lack a sense of security.Social mentality is a reflection in a certain period of social existence, and poor social mentality will affect normal development of society. First is to perfect the social security system, and improve the social security; Second is to create a fairness and justice social environment, and strengthen the people’s senses of the social fairness and trust; and third is to cultivate people’s identity of self-esteem and confidence; forth is to increase the exchange platform for the government and internet users, kept various appeal channels open; fifth is to give full play to the guiding role of public opinion and strengthen the guidance of the social mentality.
