Students’ mathematic learning motivation has a great impact on their learning results. Proper learning motivation can help cultivate students’ positive thinking ability, thus, making hem take full play to their potential and initiative. This paper is based on the reference and analysis of the researches on learning motivation, during which questionnaire and interview methods are adopted. The 200 students from grade 8 and senior grade in rural schools of Huangmei were asked randomly to be the participants. Descriptive analysis was conducted with the quantitative data gathered from the survey and an inductive approach was taken to analyze the qualitative data, searching for recurrent themes. Data from the three resources ensures triangulation, which guarantees the validity and reliability of the study. The data were analyses by using the method of single factor analysis in order to explore the relationship between students and independent Sample T Test was applied to verify whether there were differences in gender among students in two periods. The research indicates that there exist significant gender differences in math cognition among middle school students, while the gender differences are more apparent in cognition and willpower ability for high school students. With the increase of learning stages, the motivation off senior high school girls is on the decline, while there is no significance change in girls self-efficacy, cognitive ability, affirmative drive and the improvement drive. Compared with the girls, the learning motivation of boys remains stable with the increase of learning period, which is the same with cognitive drive and auxiliary drive, Moreover, there is no dramatic change in self-efficacy drive, self-improvement and willpower of boys. According to the results, some reasonable advice has been put forward at the end of the paper for novice teachers in rural areas: They are expected not just to focus on students’ knowledge, but also to pay attention to guiding students to think and to stimulate students’ motivation on mathematics, so that students’ learning motivation and cognitive thinking ability can be well improved.
