Grammar is a very important part in language and grammar teaching is an essential part for foreign language teaching. The grammar teaching methods are various in accordance with previous history of language teaching. The grammar teaching methods and the grammatical content are always discussed in the field of grammar teaching. As the grammar teaching moves ahead, some linguists hold that grammar teaching consists of three dimensions, including form, meaning and use. This theory has been accepted by most of the linguists and educators. During the process of grammar teaching, the accuracy, fluency and adaptability are combined together. Therefore, context-based grammar teaching has its value in research.The context-based grammar teaching can break through traditional grammar teaching situation based on memorizing grammatical rules. According to the grammatical rules, the effective contexts can be created to help the students understand the difficulties and use grammatical rules in real contexts. The teachers teach grammar in contexts and the students practice grammatical knowledge in contexts. The context-based grammar teaching combines the three dimensions of grammar teaching together, which can improve the students’ language skills and practical ability of language use. This can indicate the function of grammar teaching in language teaching.This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter One introduces the background, significance and the structure of the thesis. Chapter Two presents the literature review related to the research. Chapter Three illustrates the research questions, subjects and instruments, and then describes the data collection. Chapter Four shows the detail analysis about the results of the data and gives further discussion based on the results. Chapter Five draws a conclusion for the research. This research is based on the experiment of context-based grammar teaching for three months. The data collection and analysis is in accordance with the questionnaires and tests, whose purpose is to check the effects of context-based grammar teaching and use it better in the future. Based on this teaching method, the teachers’ teaching strategies are developed, and the students’ learning strategies have also been improved at the same time. It is proved that context-based grammar teaching can develop the students’ language ability.
