Grammar teaching has played an important role in English teaching in middle school for a long period in the history of Chinese high school English education.However,based on the requirements of senior English new curriculum standard for evaluation basis in China,T he current situation of English grammar teaching appears unoptimistic.Most of teachers still use the traditional grammar teaching methods out of context,ignoring the context restrictive function and explanatory function towards grammar.Teachers treat themselves as the center in grammar teaching and neglect to cultivate students' autonomous learning ability and interest in learning grammar,which lead to dissatisfactory teaching effects.Therefore,this paper mainly studies teaching strategies of context theory for English grammar teaching in senior high school so as to improve the effect of senior high school English grammar teaching and respond to the teaching ideas——learning English in context,which is required by new senior English curriculum standard.This research is based on the related theories about context theory and the requirements of knowledge in high school English grammar by national ministry of education.With the relevant literature information,an investigation is made to survey actual situation of English grammar teaching in senior high school of western Hunan.T his research adopts questionnaire,interview and class observation.T hrough analysis of the data results,this paper reveals the main problems exposed in current English grammar teaching and makes attribution analysis.T herefore,specific to those problems,teaching designs of context theory applied to grammar teaching have been proposed to improve the present English grammar teaching situation in senior high school.From the r esearch angle of teaching for English adverbial clause,the author proposes teaching basic procedures and teaching strategies on application of context theory to English adverbial clause teaching,and designs a specific plan for adverbial clause of lesson.Teaching basic procedures for senior English adverbial clause teaching are: Creation of Context —— Corpus of Analysis—— Practice in Context;teaching strategies raised according to the sorts of linguistic context and non-linguistic context are: Flexible Application of Discourse,Practice of Discourse,Description of Situation,Experience of Game,Edifying of Culture Implementation of Task.Those teaching strategies and designs carry out and reflect teaching concepts of context teaching method that cultivate students' interest in learning grammar,develop explanatory function of context and foster abilities about independent study as well as communication.T he research results extend research views of context theory and context teaching method,develop the tea ching strategies of context theory to the English grammar teaching and offer implementing methods,means and specific cases to senior high school English teachers,which do possess theoretical significance and practical value.
