Nowadays, it made the students be lack of learning enthusiasm due to various stress factors such as entrance examination of university. As a result, students’ learning attitude became negative and lazy. In order to promote the student’s academic achievement, a lot of teachers mainly employ instillation and neglect the teaching methods and students’ psychological state. Under the stressful study environment, it is necessary for the teachers to choose a properly teaching method. This thesis is based on the principle that the students are the centre of learning. It is vital to create a relaxing, equal and non-pressure environment by applying the humorous talk to class teaching.However, most domestic scholars have not realized the importance of the humorous talk, so the research results are scare in recent years. Besides, most of the books and periodicals about the humorous talk only stay at the level of the literal translation. This thesis mainly discusses the types of humorous talk and their respective effects by using the questionnaire and classroom observation as study tools. This thesis mainly focus on the following two questions in English classroom:(1) which types of humor would the teachers apply in the Senior?(2) What effects will be achieved when humorous talk is applied in the senior English classes?The object of study is 20 teachers and 120 students in the Senior high school in the No. Eighteen Middle School. At the same time, the author recorded and transcripted the 4 teachers’ humorous talk in the class. The study found that, expert teachers use humorous talk frequently;The use of humorous talk helps to establish a harmonious relationship between the teachers and student, which can also raise student’s study interest and makes the study attitude better.Generally speaking, if humorous talk can be reasonably applied to the English class, the good effects will be achieved in many ways. It is impossible to require every teacher to learn how to use humorous teaching. Humorous teaching should not be the sole criterion and measurement of good teachers.
