Recently, the scale of higher education is expanding unceasingly, which leads to social concerns about the quality of university education. In order to enhance Chinese comprehensive national power and technological level, the Communist Party of China and government pay high attention to personnel training. The report at 18th Party Congress stated, "Education is the fundamental of all undertakings for a nation’s rejuvenation and development. We should implement general education comprehensively, deepen reformation of education and improve the quality of education."In this paper, we measure the quality of university education with evaluating university’s impact on students’ ability. This paper adopts the empirical method to figure out how the role of university plays in students’ ability development, and measures the influence of the university education to graduates from the perspective of market through investing F University. Therefore, we can evaluate objectively the effect of university education in training students, which will provide a scientific basis for improving university education.First of all, this paper learns a general knowledge of Chinese graduates, including the number of graduates, graduates’ employment quality and students’ ability. Then the author designs several indicators to measure abilities, skills and job market performance, etc. Through the survey of graduates, the author evaluates the effects of university education on the students’ ability development and job market performance. The data come from the questionnaires and interviews. This paper constructs three models to assess the effect of university education, which are ability development model, job market performance model and wage frontier model. The first two models are used to discuss ability development of the graduates respectively and job market performance. The wage frontier model obtained by the correction of stochastic frontier model concerns about the existence of imperfect information in the labor market. There are some empirical findings of this study as follows:1. University education has an important influence on students’ ability development, especially the student cadre experience; it can cultivate the students’ ability in different aspects and shorten the time of finding jobs. English and computer lessons can improve students’skills, too.2. University education has a significant impact on graduates in the workplace, such as the students’ score in university has a positive effect on salary, the student cadre experience can shorten the time to look for a job, and the degree also affects the salary.3. The job market lessons and the matching degree of majors to work can reduce job incomplete information. Finally, this paper finds F university has lots of problems such as students in science and engineering whose career development potential is restricted, arts graduates only find jobs from several industries, teaching quality is not good enough, and teaching system should be improved. Based on the analysis of the present situation of university education, we propose some suggestions to improve university education, mainly including setting up a new concept that mixes professional education and general education together, establishing a multidisciplinary course system, improving the quality of lessons, and guiding the students’participation in community activities, etc.
