In China, the traditional English teaching model is teacher-centered and has the focus of introducing knowledge purely, which ignores the leading status and initiative of students in the study. As a consequence, the English classes, where students lack exchange of information and communication as well as sharing of feelings and attitudes, are always considered as boring. However, effective classroom interaction will definitely play an significant role in the development of both teachers and students.Considering the current status quo of classroom interaction and based on Kranshen’s Input Hypothesis, Long’s Interaction Hypothesis and Vygotsky’s Theory of Social Interaction, the attempts to explore the influencing factors as well as the according strategies for effective English classroom interaction in senior high. The study adopted a questionnaire method, with which 112 students in Grade One and Grade Two were surveyed. A follow-up study was done on 56 students in Grade One for nearly a year. At the same time, the author conducted a thorough research on the results of the questionnaire through classroom observation and interviews. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used to analyze the data and material. The study has found that teachers, students and social factors are the most important three aspects that influence the effective classroom interaction. These problems typically manifest themselves in following ways: Firstly, there is a lack of diversification in the form of interaction, which means interaction between teachers and students is the main form, while interaction between students can hardly be seen. Secondly, the content of interaction lies more in cognition but much less in emotion and behavior. Thirdly, the depth of our classroom interaction is not satisfying. Most of the interaction is unified without any heated controversies or collisions of ideas. The situation gets even worse with the increase of the grade. In view of the senior high school English classroom interaction, the author puts forward the following strategies for teaching. First, teachers are supposed to reposition the subjects of the classroom to restore the classroom as the platform of sharing views and information. Second, teachers should design a multi-level teaching from layer to layer to strengthen the cultivation and training of students’ concept of interaction and enrich the interaction content by creating real-life, situational and information-based teaching environment. Third, a loose classroom atmosphere should be organized to help students acquire knowledge and skills, enhance their wisdom and perfect their personalities.
