STEM education represents science, technology, engineering and mathematics education. Since the 21 st century, technological innovation is the main driving force of economic growth. The U.S. government has a profound understanding of this point, so they spare no effort to emphasize the pace of development in STEM education. As the value of STEM skills increasingly be prominent, American federal government and local educationa administrations have issued policies on STEM education to train and provide STEM talent for labor market, which enable them to maintain dominance in the challenges of economic globalization.In a certain extent, America STEM education policy can provide reference for education reform and development in China. This paper attempts to treat America STEM education policy as research object, see policy text analysis as the main line, then analyzes the development background, educational policy context, policy ideas and main content and so on. Finally, it summarizes the characteristics of STEM education policy, which can provide a reference for the reflection on the educational policy in China.This aricle consists of introduction, text, conclusion, appendices. It contains six chapters, in which the body is divided into four parts. The first chapter mainly analyses the problem putting forward, research value, concept definition, literature review and research method. The development background and context on American STEM education policy are introduced in the second chapter, which mainly analyzes the development of STEM education policy from 1986 to the current. The third chapter to the United States STEM education policy emphasizes the content of the resolution, including STEM education quality policy, STEM education management policy, STEM teachers, STEM education funding policy from four aspects of content. The fourth chapter analyzes the STEM on the content of the education policy characteristics, and characteristic of three kinds of education concepts. The fifth chapter generalizes the references of American STEM education policy, from which we can learn in China’s reform and policy-making.
