Nowadays the mastery and application of scientific knowledge have become a powerful driving force to promote social progress, and the quality of science education is related to the quality of all citizens, therefore science education is gradually getting into the people field of vision.With the gradual reform of science education in China, science education in primary school has been paid more and more attention. As the prime tool for evaluating students, paper and pencil tests should achieve to develop students’ scientific literacy and guide their scientific enlightenment. Development of academic evaluation tests should strengthen their openness and flexibility, and focus in examing students’ learning potential and ability of creative thinking, and guide students enjoy science courses gradually. Open-ended item is in line with the theme of the above requirements as the supplementary and opposite of closed ones.Open-ended item attempts to change the passive learning style of accepting knowledge of students and guide students to express different opinions step by step, which culture students’ ability of questionable and innovation. In the research of openness of primary science, we have sorted out the previous relevant literatures firstly, summarized and thought them, discussed theoretically the connotation, classification and value of open-ended item in primary science in depth, learnt how to design and develop the tests, analyze the principles and methods of design of tests and proposed methods and steps of open tests. According to the procedure proposed for commonly used open questions designed study, finally we have designed and learnt several different types of open tests. The research reveals that it is the difficult problem and the key to proposition of open-ended item to meet the evaluation of the content and experience of different types of students and of opening degree. Finally, this paper gives some suggestions on the design of questions, hoping to play a reference of proposition of classroom teachers and promote scientific evaluation of teaching.
