Study On The Teaching Strategy Of Infiltrating Disease Prevention Education In Biology Teaching In Junior High School

The main purpose of disease prevention education is to promote people to set up the correct view of health, to develop good habits and to live healthily ultimately. Adolescence is a critical period of human being to form a good lifestyle.In this paper, the body height and weight of 239 students of Grade Seven from No.35 middle school in Hohhot were investigated to evaluate the students’ nutritional and healthy status according to the standard about height and weight of middle school students and body mass index(BMI)classification standard about screening overweight and obesity. In order to explore the better teaching strategies to promote the students’ health status through the biological teaching, the questionnaire on disease knowledge,health attitudes and related behaviors was carried out before and after the intervention finally.The results showed that,(1) Before the disease prevention education, the rates of malnutrition and low weight were 2.52% and 10.04%, the rate of normal weight accounted for 67.79%, the rate of overweight and obesity were10.87% and 8.80% respectively. The main ways for students to obtain the knowledge of disease are mainly from family members, television, network,newspapers, magazines, books, and then from the classmates, but little from school and doctors. Most students hope teachers to infiltrate the disease prevention education in classroom. The correct rate of basic disease knowledge, attitude and behavior for health was low, reaching 57.66%,60.34% and 45.68%. But most students eagerly want to change current bad habits.(2) According to the existing problems and the mode of “KnowledgeBelief- Practice” and the teaching material and theories, some practice about disease prevention education was carried out in the biological teaching. Theresults showed that the problem-driven teaching strategy, situation-experience teaching strategy and peer education based on cooperative learning were effective for the disease prevention education. Effective teaching strategies are not only beneficial to promote health but also effective to reform biology teaching of new curriculum in junior middle school, and conducive to implement the new curriculum standard completely.(3) The disease prevention health education was effective in this study.The rates of students’ disease knowledge awareness, health attitudes and the formation of health behavior improved from 57.66% to 92.66%(p<0.01),from 60.34% to 85.06%(p<0.01), from 45.68% to 58.96%(p>0.05)respectively. At the same time, the students have a strong interest in biology.To form the healthy lifestyle is very difficult. This study improved the students’ disease knowledge and health attitude effectively, but the formation of health behavior improved insignificantly because of the short intervention period. It can be inferred from the study that the disease prevention education through effective teaching strategies is possible but the single subject penetrating teaching is not enough and it also should be combined with other departments involving the school, family and society to carry out the comprehensive intervention for a long time.
