Among the five fundamental English skills, namely English writing,listening, speaking, reading and translating, English writing is not only the key and difficult points of English teaching, but also that of English teaching reform. With the development of corpus, it has been more and more applied to English teaching. Compared to the traditional English teaching, which is centered on teachers’ demonstration and explanation, so students haven’t got many chances to practice, the application of self-compiled mini-corpus in English writing is centered on students’ writing practice, in favor of improving students’ English writing level.Firstly, the paper expounds the important concepts of corpus, its classification and role. Secondly, the paper introduces the theoretical foundation of the research, namely the output theory, the construction theory and the theory of new curriculum. Thirdly, the paper presents the research hypothesis, research methods, research process and statistical tool. Before the research, three hypotheses are put forward. The main research methods include the questionnaire, pretest writing and post-test writing. The statistical tool for the research refers to SPSS11.5 software.It is an experiment research on the improvement of English writing level of senior high school students through the application of self-compiled mini-corpus, and the experiment subjects are students from Class One and Class Two, Grade One, X city, No. X Senior High School. The experiment turns out that the application of self-compiled mini-corpus to English writing teaching is one of the effective ways to improve senior high students’ English writing capacity. Firstly, the experiment enables students to change their ways and attitudes towards English learning. Secondly, students’ writing level is improved through the experiment. Thirdly, the cooperative learning, one of the sections of the experiment, makes students keep the harmonious relationship with each other.It is hoped that the results of this experiment could provide someimplications on English writing for senior high school teachers.
