With the deepen promotion of China’s reform and opening-up and sustainable economic development, people’s life style is undergoing some profound changes, such as the increasing amount of leisure time. Teachers not only enjoy the weekends and statutory holidays, but also appreciate winter and summer with paid vacations. How to make good use of the leisure and improve the quality of leisure life is gradually becoming an important theme among rural teachers. Therefore, this study explores the current leisure lives of rural teachers, seeking for effective strategies based on the theoretical study and the analysis of the causes. Specifically, its main contents including the following five aspects:First of all, the study reviews the domestic and international literature related to rural teachers’ leisure life, and defines the concept of rural teachers, leisure life and rural teachers’ leisure life as its logical starting point.Secondly, the study analyzes the theoretical foundation of leisure life, including its connotation, characteristics, values and theoretical basis, so as to provide theoretical support for the existing problems, causes and the solutions to the leisure life of rural teachers.Thirdly, the study investigates the current situation and problems of rural teachers’ leisure life in junior middle school. This study extracts a certain number of rural teachers from Zhejiang, Sichuan and Hebei provinces, conducting questionnaires, observations and deep interviews to get the first-hand information of rural junior middle school teachers’ leisure life. The investigation shows that rural junior middle school teachers lack the consciousness of leisure life, and have cognitive deviation in leisure; the insufficient of leisure time as the overdue of working hour; restrained by economic conditions, and monotonous choices of leisure activities; the lack of external resources to support leisure life development.Fourthly, the study discusses the causes of the problems existing in rural junior high school teachers’ leisure life from three dimensions. From the perspective of the government and society, insufficient education funds and low social status of rural teachers; from the perspective of rural schools, the weak leisure atmosphere, undervalued lectures about leisure theories; from the perspective of rural teachers, deviation in leisure roles’ cognition and lack of leisure flow experience.Fifthly, the study explores effective strategies while draws successful lessons from rural teachers’ leisure life abroad to construct effective guarantee mechanism and improve the quality of rural junior middle school teachers’ leisure life. From the state and society level, the need to increase capital investment in rural areas, strengthen rural policy tilt, and enhance the social status of rural junior middle school teachers; from the rural school level, to construct humane environment, enhance management mechanism through innovation, and build powerful platforms as support; from rural teachers’ own level, to actively change their attitudes towards the ideas of leisure life, improve the contents of leisure life consciously.
