The Investigation Of College Students’ Civic Consciousness Problems

The civic consciousness is the necessary quality of modern civil society and the spiritual impetus of modern society. How to effectively cultivate and improve civic consciousness has become a popular topic in all over the world. Although the concept of "citizen" imported from the west to our country long before the period of Westernization Movement, due to historical and practical reasons, there are existing a big gap between our country’s and western’s civic consciousness. Many people did not realize that the citizen a subject which have the right and the responsibility at the same time. As the main force of social development, college students ’ civic consciousness would affect the development of the whole society and the national spirit. Therefore, a research about college students ’civic consciousness has a strong theoretical and practical significance. Based on the analysis of causes for existing problems in college students ’civic consciousness, this paper would try to provide recommendations for the college education of civic consciousness in the future.The whole test consist of five parts. The first part of this essay introduces the background, significance, goal and innovation of the research. It also presents situation in the domestic and foreign study about the topic. The second part of this essay clarifies concepts of civic awareness, rights, sense of rights, responsibility and sense of responsibility. Besides it, it also analyzes the factors of rights consciousness and responsibility consciousness on the basis of theories at home and abroad. The third part of this essay questionnaire about students’ civic awareness in five Hangzhou universities to explore existing problems in current awareness of citizens:.Free consciousness was gradually awakening, but awareness of the rules needs to be strengthened; self awareness increased, but the collective idea should be improved;national identity has become deeper, but political practice still need to be guided;tolerance consciousness fully revealed, but the awareness of rights ought to be universal; consciousness of justice were growing each day, but the public welfare behavior should be improved. The fourth part of the thesis mainly discusses the causes of the present situation of college students’ citizen consciousness, and put forward to some corresponding countermeasures in view of the problems. Causes consist of three aspects: the negative influence of market economy, cognitivedislocation during the period of social transformation, the lack of power and responsibility unified platform in school education. And it tries to construct civic awareness education in following three aspects:civic culture, citizens’ public life and civic consciousness curriculum. In the last part of this thesis gives a brief summary of the existing problems and cultivating measures in college students’ citizen consciousness.
