The development of tennis can reflect the level of civilization and openness of a city, and more importantly, the living standard and aesthetic mode of its peo ple. The development of amateur tennis in Changzhi City has always been quite s luggish, so there’s still a large gap between Changzhi City and other developed cities in this field. In order to solve this problem, a survey research is conducted on the current development of amateur tennis in Changzhi City, hoping to find t he restraining factors and solve the sluggish situation of amateur tennis in Changz hi City. The object of this survey is the current development of amateur tennis in Changzhi City and the participants of this sport are the respondents. In light of the principle of combining theory with practice, the current development of amate ur tennis in Changzhi City is studied and analyzed through several scientific resea rch methods, such as literature review, questionnaire survey, mathematical statistics and interview, etc. In consideration of the existing deficiencies, causes are found and feasible suggestions are put forward, hoping to provide certain objective refe rence to the promotion of amateur tennis in Changzhi City and the popularization of other sports in this city. The following conclusions are reached through the re search:1, In terms of the management of amateur tennis in Changzhi City, the instit utions are incomplete and the mechanism is imperfect. Authoritative management i nstitutions of amateur tennis in Changzhi City are primarily represented by Chang zhi Tennis Association. Although this association has gained considerable improve ment in these years, the construction of this institution is still incomplete, and the management mechanism still needs further improvement.2, In terms of the participants of amateur tennis in Changzhi City, gender dif ference is reflected in the fact that there are more men than women who play te nnis; the participants are mainly mental workers, such as "civil servants and teac hers", at the age of 36-55 year-old, and with a diploma of junior college or abo ve; most of these participants make 2,000-4,000 RMB. The motives held by these participants in amateur tennis are under the influence of their gender, occupation and age. Participants at different ages hold different motives in the participation of this sport. Even at the same age, participants may also hold different motives; the participants of amateur tennis in Changzhi City are mainly under basic consu mption, but participants under the intermediate level of consumption are the main target in the market of amateur tennis in Changzhi City, and the proportion of pa rticipants under the high level of consumption is lower. Generally speaking, the fr equency of such participation is three times or above every week, and the duratio n is mostly 60-120 minutes each time.3, Amateur tennis in Changzhi City is under limited financial investment and relatively fixed channels of investment. The government is the one that invests t he most, and most of the funds have been utilized to hold competitions and main tain the courts and facilities. Hence, the support for amateur tennis is deficient.4, The quality of the limited number of tennis courts is still poor in Changz hi City. Specifically speaking, there are over 50% firm grounds and unilluminated courts, and idle courts haven’t been effective exploited. The participants of tenni s in Changzhi City show a low degree of satisfaction towards the courts and facil ities. Besides, since there aren’t enough courts, new ones need to be established. Also, the management of the courts is not effective, because except from the regu lar maintenance provided by the clubs, other courts are simply "cleaned", let al one the basic maintenance and troubleshooting.5, The number of high-level tennis competitions is very limited in Changzhi City, and these very few competitions are often in low-level, which has restrained the development of amateur tennis to a certain extent.6, In terms of the coaches of amateur tennis, only a small proportion were r etired from professional teams or graduated from institutions of higher learning on sports; the number of coaches who have obtained the ITF certificate is very limi ted, and they are relatively inexperienced because they have spent very limited ti me on tennis teaching. These coaches still need further improvement in the overal 1 competence and comprehensive qualities.7, The development of amateur tennis in Changzhi City is under the influenc e of various factors. The relative deficiency of tennis courts and facilities, the lac k of support from the government sectors, the inadequacy of positive atmosphere of tennis playing and practical sections in the management institutions, and the lo w income level of local people are the main factors restraining the development o f amateur tennis in Changzhi City.
