With the development of theory of linguistics, it has been widely realized that the appropriate language learning strategies assure effective learning and help language learners get a better learning achievement. The study of the English language learning strategies began in 1970 s. In China, the study started in 1980 s. Many researchers focused on the study of junior high school, senior high school and college students’ using of English learning strategies. According to the New English Curriculum Standard for High Schools 2011 in China, teachers are required to develop the students’ ability of using language learning strategies. However, ineffective English teaching commonly exist in China after the new English curriculum standard was published. It is urgent to change the teacher-centered classroom to the learner-centered classroom in the field of language teaching and learning.Henan Province has carried out the new curriculum reform since 2010. According to the curriculum, students are demanded to improve their ability of using English learning strategies and autonomous learning. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a research to explore the usage of English learning strategies in senior high schools of Henan Province. The research aims to investigate the frequency of using English learning strategies, the relationship between English learning strategies and school, gender, performance, etc. Besides, the results and the suggestions will offer some help to teachers and students of Jiaozuo Province to teach and learn English more efficiently and effectively.In this study, the author conducted a survey. 300 questionnaires were issued in five different senior high schools in Jiaozuo City and 289 valid questionnaires were taken back. Later on five students were interviewed more detailed information. The students are from Jiaozuo No. 12 Senior High School, Jiaozuo No. 11 Senior High School, Wenxian Senior High School, Jiaozuo No.1 Senior High School and Jiaozuo Foreign Language Senior High School respectively. In addition, Oxford’s SILL(Strategy Inventory for Language Learning) was chosen as the instrument of data collecting and the questionnaire was translated into Chinese for students.
