With the rapid development of information technology, the popularization of WIFI, 3G and 4G networks,and the affordable price of mobile phones, surfing the Internet with mobile phones has become an indispensable way of living. Wechat, one of the most belov ed instant messaging software, boasts 600 million loyal users. As a significant function of Wechat, Moments bears the responsibility of social contact. Characteristics of Moments 1 ike a higher degree of privacy, fast information dissemination speed, rich information con tent as well as an attractive presentation layout all contribute to its popularity among univ ersity students and exert a profound influence on their life style.By means of questionaire survey and interviews, this paper presents the general view of Wechatuse among universi ty students. It analyzes and summarizes the positive and negative influences of Wechat o n university students and discusses the possible opportunities and challenges of college st udents’ideological and political education. The paper also puts forward corresponding str ategies in order to keep pace with current situations and maximize its advantages. By gra sping opportunities and braving the challenges, Wechat’s Moments can better serve the ideological and political education of universities.The paper consists of four parts.Chapter one presents the general overview of Wechat Moments. It summaries the main characteristics of Wechat Moments. Moments is the social interaction platform base d on acquaintance, which has the characteristics of rapid information dissemination speed , high credit but also information redundancy. It integrates open information and private i nformation together. Furthermore, customers can express themselves through multimodal contents such as video and audio. Moments focus on exchange and share of feelings. Wit h the deepening influent of Wechat, the"Moments culture"has come into play.In Chapter Two, through authentic information gathered from the questionnaire in q ueries and investigation,the paper analyzes influence of Wechat on university students. It s positive influences mainly include:it meets students emotional need, helping students t o release their emotional pressure; Also,moments, as an important information database,b roadens students horizon; it allows students to show themselves to others, which facilitat e well-rounded personal growth; it enhances interactions among students, preparing them adapt to social life. On the other hand, Moment also have negative influences, such as th e addiction on Wechat weakens realistic social relations; ostentatious displays of wealth b ehaviours aggravate the sense of relative deprivation; media diversity causing a loss of va lues; the exaggerations of mood hinders personal growth.Chapter Three further elaborates challenges and opportunities Wechat Moments exer t on ideological and political education. Widespread use of Wechat Moments brings oppo rtunities to ideological and political education:it helps ideological and political education become part of students life, enriches its content, increases its accessibility as well as pro motes relationships between teacher and students of this subject. Meanwhile, it also prese nt challenges to ideological and political education:the privacy of Wechat Moments lead to uncontrollable factors in ideological and political education;the entertaining content po ses threat to standardization; the diversity of values reduces the authoritativeness of educ ation; it also ask for qualified ideological and political educators.Chapter four highlights Wechat opportunities on ideological and political education. The paper presents corresponding strategies to eliminate its negative impacts and maximi zes its merits in order to serve ideological and political education in universities.Universi ties shall lead the thoughts, establish models and cultivate a batch of qualified student "opinion leaders". Educators should also refresh ideas, enhance abilities and build a group of college students’ advisors of high proficiency. At the same time, combined efforts of ideology and political teaching for college students should be formed by fully using all media. A decent atmosphere of ideology and political teaching should be constructed by perfect the system and optimize the environment.
