Research On The Privacy Management Of College Students’ WeChat Moments And Its Motivation

With the development of Internet technology,social media has also generalized and affected people’s lives.As the social media with the highest penetration rate,WeChat has become the first choice of many user groups.This also makes WeChat’s social window—WeChat Moments gradually become a social stage for users to express themselves and share their lives.The existence of social media is bound to be accompanied by higher privacy risks.Due to the functional defects of the WeChat Moments itself and risks brought by external factors,privacy leakage during the use process have gradually surfaced.The frequent occurrence of these problems has caused turbulence in personal privacy boundaries,invisibly disturbing people’s lives,and even causing damage to people’s rights and interests.Based on this,the understanding of privacy by college students,the privacy management behaviors adopted when using WeChat Moments,and the starting point for the management behaviors have become more and more important.This paper adopts a qualitative research method,takes college students in WeChat Moments as interview subjects,and selects 30 college students from domestic colleges and universities based on the principle of information saturation.In-depth interviews are used to explore the privacy management behaviors of college students,and at the same time,the underlying reasons for the privacy management of WeChat Moments by college students are explored.This article is mainly divided into three chapters:The first chapter focuses on the privacy dilemma under social media.On the one hand,the privacy attributes under the network environment are undergoing new changes,and the overall scope of traditional privacy continues to expand,with property and commercial attributes.On the other hand,the boundary between the public and private spheres under social media has gradually blurred,and the privacy boundary has gradually become out of control.As a result,a series of privacy risks have emerged.Privacy leakage have begun to appear frequently,and social media users have also begun to voice and resist in today’s privacy dilemma.The second chapter explores the specific privacy management behaviors taken by college students in WeChat Moments.The three specific coordination rules of privacy boundary in the dissemination of privacy management theory are applied to the analysis of privacy management behavior in WeChat Moments.In-depth analysis of the specific manifestations of boundary connection,boundary penetration,and boundary ownership in WeChat Moments were carried out respectively.The research believes that by coordinating the various relationships of the privacy boundary of social media and continuously managing the privacy boundary,it can better handle the interpersonal communication of users and avoid privacy risks.Chapter Three analyzes the deep-seated reasons behind the adoption of these privacy management behaviors by college students.This chapter conducts an in-depth analysis based on the real use and specific feelings of the WeChat Moments by college students.On the one hand,with the increase of WeChat users and the popularization of the use of WeChat Moments,people gradually began to realize the privacy risks brought by it,and began to adopt a series of privacy management actions to avoid the occurrence of privacy risks to the greatest extent.On the other hand,due to changes in interpersonal relationships,users’ desire for expression is also reduced.Moments users in the network environment are prone to burnout on social media;coupled with the complexity of social relationships and the mobilization of social scenes,users begin to have a certain role pressure due to self-presentation,but also eager to be "forgotten" for a certain period of time,which also encourages the privacy management of users in the circle of friends.WeChat Moments brings certain privacy risks while providing users with social convenience.Only the boundary protection of WeChat Moments can be improved and the privacy management functions of the WeChat platform can be improved.At the same time,the ability to protect the privacy of college students is continuously improved,so that college students can more safely disclose themselves in the circle of friends and gain social recognition at the same time.
