The Mortality Pattern Of People And Social Development In China

Mortality is the final destination of all human beings. Close connection between human beings and the society has been widely acknowledged as men are embedded in society from birth till death. The thesis gives a description of the change of mortality pattern in the following three periods: 30 years before the founding of the PRC, 30 years after the founding of the PRC, and 30 years since the launching of the reform and opening-up policy. The impact of social development on mortality is being drawn by analyzing the relationship between the mortality pattern and social development and seeking for the non-demographic factor affecting mortality. Final conclusions, by doing so, has been reached and suggestions has been made.The three mortality patterns of Chinese are as follows: in the period of 30 years before the founding of the PRC, U-shaped distribution with high mortality of infants and the seniors has been drawn, with the infectious diseases leading to a very much high mortality rate. Gradual change began in the period of the 30 years after the founding of the PRC from high mortality of both infants and the seniors to a rapid drop of mortality with low rate of infants while still high rate of the seniors, thus making the U-shaped turning into J-shaped distribution. The cause of death changed from the infectious diseases to chronic non-infectious diseases. The mortality rate ranged from 6‰ to 7‰ came in the last period of the 30 years since the launching of reform and opening-up policy. The J-shaped distribution has been completed and the main cause of death turned into chronic non-infectious diseases.By analyzing the relationship between the change of mortality pattern and the social development within these 90 years, the findings are as follows. Firstly, important factor has been provided by implementing the birth control policy, improving the infants’ health conditions and reducing the mortality of pregnant women, thus reducing the mortality of the whole Chinese. Secondly, material base has been provided by the improvement of economic life, which provides more security for the living and development of Chinese, thus reducing the mortality. Thirdly, the development of medical and health services is the key to timely and effectively cure the disease and pain and save lives, thus guaranteeing and improving the health level and then reducing the mortality. Fourthly, the progress made in the course of culture and education has provided the ideological basis for spreading science and technology, optimizing the ideological concepts of demography, sanitary and living habits, thus upgrading the life quality and reducing the mortality. Fifthly, the convenient transportation has provided an important condition for saving rescue time and increase the efficiency of treatment, thus reducing the mortality. Lastly, the deterioration of the environment does harm to health of human beings at all times, brings them diseases, and then aggravating and accelerating the bad conditions, thus raising the mortality, which makes it all the recessive condition. On the condition of such current situation, the thesis suggests that it is for our own good to first, adjust the population structure according to the current population situation; second, perfect social security system; and last, change the existing life notions and promote life and work style in a healthy and green way.
