Now English class is the main place for the students of junior high schools to learn English. Lead-in is the first section of English classroom teaching. As the saying goes, well begun is half done. So lead-in section plays an important role in the English classroom teaching of junior high schools. An effective lead-in section can attract the students’ attention quickly and motivate the enthusiasm of students to learn English. A good lead-in can make students go into the learning state smoothly and can improve the teaching effectiveness.However, the majority of the current researches of lead-in are the summary of teaching experience of English teachers. The results of the researches are relatively scattered. The present research is on the basis of the Constructivism Learning Theory and Krashen’s Input and Effective Filter Hypotheses. The research aims to survey the present situation of lead-in of English classroom teaching in junior high schools and find some problems of the lead-in section in English classroom teaching in junior high schools and give some pedagogical implications.The objects of this research are 4 English teachers and 369 students of Anyang No.64 Junior High School. The research methods that the author employed are classroom observation, questionnaire and interview.This paper presents three research questions chiefly, namely,(1) What is the current situation of lead-in in English classroom teaching in junior high schools?(2) What are the problems with lead-in in English classroom teaching in junior high schools?(3) What are the effective methods of lead-in in English classroom teaching in junior high schools?By research the author finds that most of the teachers are aware that lead-in is an important part in the English classroom teaching in junior high schools. However, there are some problems in the process of adopting lead-in. For instance, the ways of lead-in are lack of diversity and interest. Teachers neglect the needs of students. The length of lead-in time is not proper and so on. According to the results of survey the author analyzes the reasons and finds out some pedagogical implications: Lead-in section should be student-centered and diversified. Teachers should read more pedagogical books about lead-in and balancethe relationship between the factors in the English classroom teaching.By this research the author hopes that English teachers know the importance of lead-in section in English classroom teaching, regulate and modify the teaching arrangements. Teachers can correct the problems that exist in the implementation of lead-in. At last they can improve the teaching efficiency.
