English class is the chief place where Chinese students study English, so class efficiency is of much importance, and determines whether students can gain English language indeed. Accordingly, lead-in skills play a most important part in English teaching in senior high school.In some senior high schools, the standard of evaluating the teaching quality is only the scores, which gets English teachers to continue their work in the old way and to pay little attention to "lead-in" in class. They think "lead-in" wastes so much time that they often want to go straight into the topic as soon as the class begins. But the fact proves the effective lead-in can bring the active class atmosphere and arouse students' interest and motivation in learning, and expand their thinking, thus improving English class and motivation in learning, and expand their thinking, thus improving English class efficiency.This paper explores how to use lead-in in senior high schools effectively. It can change the dull, ineffective and time-wasting English class into interesting and lively class.This paper consists of five chapters.Chapter One is an introduction, mainly stating the topic of the research, the purpose of the research, the definition of the topic and the relevant research at home and abroad.Chapter Two is the literature review that provides theoretical support for the thesis. Through the research of the topic, this chapter explores how to organize the effective way of lead-in from the background of the new curriculum based on the students' interest and motivation in order to improve class efficiency. And it presents the theoretical basis, the principles, the purposes and the functions of the useful lead-in. It analyses the characters of senior high school students, the teacher's roles in teaching, English teaching strategies about organization, teaching presupposition and non-presupposition and how to avoid time-wasting in lead-in.Chapter Three explores the teaching strategies of effective lead-in and the procedures of lead-in conducted in the research by the author. Finally the author concludes 15 types of lead-in based on the other experts' experience with the examples from class practice in the author's intern school---Beijing NO.15 Senior High School. To start with, it states how to carry out lead-in, make a feedback about it and make a conclusion about how to get the wonderful way used in every class or any English materials, how to attract the students' attention and put themselves into a relaxing and enjoyable class so that they can enjoy thinking, exploring and learning.Chapter Four is about the methods and procedures of the experiment conducted by the author. It states the experimental aims, methods, arrangements and procedures. The author contrasts the class condition and examination results between two experimental classes for a term by referring to literature, educational experimental method, content analytical method, classroom observation, questionnaires and interview on lead-in face to face to gain more wonderful lead-in experience and use it better.Chapter Five concludes the types of the effective methods of lead-in and states its practical significance, giving some suggestions.
