In recent years, more and more researchers pay attention to textual teaching. But considering the limited empirical studies concerning how to make full use of multimedia courseware to assist textual teaching, esp. how to teach genre-based structural models aided by multimedia courseware in the English reading class, this dissertation, based on genre-analysis theory and scheme theory, explores how to cultivate students’ awareness of genre-based schematic structure aided by multimedia courseware in English reading teaching in Senior High School.Based on the previous researches on genre-based schematic structure and aided by multimedia technology, this study designs relevant reading teaching courseware for the textbooks used in the English class in Senior High School and conducts a half-a-year teaching experiment among two classes of Senior Two. The experiment is intended to test whether the cultivation of genre-based schematic structure awareness can improve students’ reading comprehension. And this research yields the finding that enhancing students’ awareness of genre-based schematic structure aided by multimedia technology can not only help students have a better perception and understanding of the genre-based structural models but also improve their reading comprehension ability to some extent, especially concerning textual structure. After a period of intensive training, most of the students can make use of the genre-based structural models to aid their reading. As for the students with the upper and medium English levels, they make greater progress in their reading ability than those with low English levels.This study not only contributes to further study on the application of genre-analysis theory and scheme theory to specific discipline theoretically but also has a great guiding effect on the English reading teaching in Senior High School practically.
