Gymnastics plays an important role in gymnastics teaching and becomes one of main courses at institute of physical education due to its particular way of bodybuilding. Wether gymnastics classes could meet the needs of gymnastics teaching in primary and middle schools, and society for sports talents, wether it can create some job opportunities for graduates. etc are still problems we need to solve. So it is very necessary to explore the teaching current situation of gymnastics class in PE major of institute of physical education In Inner Mongolia. The research is focused on the survey to the teachers and leaders in seven colleges of physical education in Inner Mongolia by literature material law, questionnaire, expert interview and data in order to have a full investigation about the current situation of gymnastics teaching. Then some problems can be found and analyzed so that the gymnastics teaching can be improved and can meet the needs of society for sports talents. At the same time it can offer theoretical reference for teaching reform in physical education major.Conclusion:(1) In gymnastics teaching, most of physical education major in colleges of Inner Mongolia still use traditional teaching methods. It is based on the teaching of athletic gymnastics, taking over more class hours but less quantity of motion. There is a big difference between the choice of teaching materials and the content of arrangement. The teaching content is single and simple. It is based on mat skills, assisted with horizontal bar and parallel bars. Practice queue formation can be done well.(2) Students’study:The contradiction between the only child’s feature in mind and body and the high requirements of gymnastics in difficulty and beauty makes students lack of spirit of adventure and afraid of learning gymnastics. (3) Teachers:The young teachers and the old teachers are the main force in teaching gymnastics in physical education major. The proportion of women teachers and men teachers is relatively reasonable. Title structure is low. Special teachers are not enough. Educational background structure is single. The level of professional referees is low. Gymnastics teaching field, instrument and facilities can’t fully meet the needs of class in ease area. But in west area, there is not enough teaching field and facilities. Most of students are not satisfied with it.(4) Leaders’attention:In gymnastics teaching, it is unavoidable for students to be hurt because of difficulty. The leadership is afraid of taking responsibilities, so they restrict the class of gymnastics, decrease the teaching hours, which has a bad effect on multiple teaching.(5) Evaluation system:The evaluation of gymnastics teaching is based on the teachers’enthusiastic to the students. According to the test items and standards, the evaluation is restricted to sports skills and basic knowledge. Theory, special physical fitness, the body basic quality cognition of emotion and ability are not attached much importance.
