The Research Of Lexical Chunks Method To Vocabulary Teaching In Senior Grade One

It is generally acknowledged that vocabulary is the basis of the language and vocabulary teaching plays a key role in English teaching, but it has become a tough question which draws the attention of English teachers as well. Students should not only master the English grammar, but also need to have a large vocabulary in three years. However, English vocabulary teaching is time-consuming and inefficient, for which it is extremely important and necessary to help students learn effectively and use the vocabulary correctly in the target language.If students have effective approaches to lexical learning in Senior One, the first year of the high school life, it is of great help to lay a solid foundation for their English learning. Based on the Lexical Chunks Approach, this paper aims to introduce this method into vocabulary teaching in Senior One. By this means, the interests and passion of learning English by students can be raised and the ability to learn and use the vocabulary in a flexible way can be improved so as to promote their English learning.A questionnaire survey is made among the students in Tianjin No.4Middle School before the teaching experiment in the paper. The aim is to investigate the vocabulary and learning methods of students in Senior Grade One. Two classes are chosen to be the subjects in the experiment. The students in control class learn vocabulary in a traditional way, while the other class is taught vocabulary by lexical chunks method.After the experiment, the students in two classes take post-test. From the data analysis, the author can come to a conclusion that the students with the knowledge of lexical phrases can get better productivity in English and teaching vocabulary by chunks in senior grade one does improve students’ ability of the second language vocabulary learning.
