Vocabulary is an important factor in foreign language learning.It plays an important role in the process of the Second Language Acquisition.In the study on English teaching in senior high school,it is found that although teachers are aware of the importance of vocabulary in English teaching,their teaching has always failed to achieve the desired results.Although the students have mastered a large English vocabulary in their learning,there are a lot of mistakes in the process of practicing language.Based on the difficulties in English teaching and learning,lexical chunk theory provides a reasonable explanation and solution.This thesis aims to explore the feasibility of lexical chunk theory in English vocabulary teaching in senior high schools,and to discuss whether the theory can promote the students' comprehensive ability.Lexical chunks refer to a relatively fixed expression in the language,and making full use of it can help teachers solve the problems in teaching.This thesis mainly testifies the following three questions:English vocabulary teaching based on lexical chunks can enhance the students' confidence and interest in learning English.Their accumulation of lexical chunks contributes to their sense of achievement.It can be inferred that the more lexical chunks stored in memory as unanalyzed wholes,the easier it is for students to speak English.And after class,some of them are exposed to more materials by listening more English news and reading some English books or newspapers for interest,which implies that they are becoming more and more motivated when learning English and learner autonomy has been fostered to a certain extent.The new lexical teaching mode can contribute to students' better understanding of the vocabularies than before and improve their performance in the exams.The analysis of the data results both in pre-test and post-test indicate that the new teaching method of lexical chunks in English vocabulary is effective in enhance students' performance,and that is to say it can be widely used in English teaching in senior high school.English vocabulary teaching based on lexical chunks is superior to the traditional way.From the experiment it is confirmed that the number of students actively involved in the class has increased because of the application of the new teaching approach.Students are interested in vocabulary,they show enthusiasm on learning the new vocabulary in authentic materials,and they do the task in the positive attitude.From their expressions,a conclusion is drawn that they expect to be involved in vocabulary teaching class and they participate in class actively.Moreover,most of them have confidence in completing the tasks and learning English vocabulary well.These conclusions are sufficient to prove the superiority of lexical approach in vocabulary teaching.This study is based on experimental investigation.The result of the experiment shows that lexical chunk approach is feasible in English vocabulary teaching in senior high school,it can stimulate students' interest in learning vocabulary,enhance the ability of using language,and improve students' test scores.At last,the author gave suggestions on English vocabulary teaching of senior high school and illustrated the limitations of the thesis and the possibility of further research.
