The novel reading teaching is an important and inseparable part in Chinese teachingin senior high school, which involves the active participation of teachers and students.However, the present situation of novel reading teaching in high school period concerns usa lot. Therefore, a lot needs to be improved, such as students’ independence of readingnovels, teacher’s instruction in reading methods, the class-teaching methods and teachers’self-attainments in novels. Based on the analysis of the values of novel teaching in highschool period and the selections included in the JiangSu Edition in combination with thecurrent teaching situations, the writer intends to analyze the problems occurring in readingand teaching process as well as explore some effective teaching strategies in novel-reading.Reading is the basis of students’ language learning. Students are expected to mastergood reading methods,learn to read and foster good habits of reading. Teachers’ teachingshould be based on students’ reading ability. Meanwhile,teachers should also equipthemselves with solid literacy in novels and have a good command of novel readingteaching methods. In a word, a good class atmosphere involves the mutual efforts ofteachers and students. Only with the mutual involvement of teachers and students cannovel reading teaching and novel attainments of students be effectively improved.
