The new curriculum standards of primary English points out that stimulating students’learning interest is the target in primary English teaching. Through studying the situation inprimary English classroom, combined with the related viewpoints in pedagogy, psychology,and linguistics, the writer finds out that game teaching is necessary in primary Englishteaching. Since Tao Xingzhi, Chen Heqin and other educators began to bring games intoclasses. Games teaching can ease the tension of the students who first learn English, it canalso provide a relevant language circumstance and let the students learn happily. However,with a short history, game teaching paradigm doesn’t prescribe a uniform rule to follow;teachers’ knowledge of games teaching is limited and their designs for teaching are still notmature. Consequently, an ideal teaching effect can not be secured. Besides, some studymethods are adopted in this thesis as the proofs by the writer. The statistical figures indicatethat pupils are interested in playing games in class. The interview survey declares goodrelationship between students and teacher benefits children’s learning. Writer’s personalexperience shows game teaching can make great impact on students’ abilities and characters.Moreover,the writer makes a conclusion that it is necessary to use game teaching inprimary English classroom. The study on the necessity of game teaching can make allteachers and students have a proper recognition of its importance advantages. Using gameteaching in classroom can create relax and happy atmosphere for students to study, which canpromote the development of curriculum and the quality of education. The writer also putsforward advice for both students and teachers based upon the research results.My thesis is based on Johan Huizinga’s “Game players Theory”, Happy TeachingTheory, Constructivism Theory and Cognition Theory. On the basis of doing muchinvestigation and analysis in primary school, aiming at answering what advantage does thegame teaching method have when comparing the traditional teaching method. Havinganalyzed the theoretical background of game teaching and it’s the current situation in China;the author tries to employ the methodology in her teaching practice. Through the observation,reflection and further analysis, the game teaching theory’s function, the advantages and disadvantages of applying this theory to teaching and its future research gap arediscussed.The introduction demonstrates the meaning of games teaching in primary school,games teaching infiltrate the “happy teaching” conception, let students learn English happilyand in the meantime they can apply what they’ve learnt in the class to the real life, makelearning into useful things, promote students’ development both physically and mentally andstimulate students’ interest.
