Nowadays, the policy for the textbook publication is opened up, more and more versions ofthe textbook in market emerge. However, with the various textbooks, it should be profoundlyconsidered which textbooks to choose. It is the necessary premise to comprehend biologycurriculum standard for junior high school in2011in order to evaluate the teaching materials. Atpresent, the biology textbook in the author’s region is published by Shandong Science andTechnology Press. The series of textbooks are effective, but there are some shortcomings.Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the usage of the textbook in order to discover the problemsand causes and to put forward some suggestions, which will improve the quality of the textbook.To provide guidance for first-line teachers and suggestions for further revision of theteaching materials, the biology textbook published by Shandong Science and TechnologyPress should be comprehensively and objectively analyzed and evaluated. This paper mainlyadopts literature research, teaching material analysis, comparative analysis and questionnairesurvey for research. By reading literature, the theoretical basis, the history and the research statusof the junior high school biology textbooks in our country were understood deeply. On this basis,the edition of junior high school biological teaching materials was analyzed and evaluated. It wasmainly divided into two steps: firstly, compared with junior high school biology curriculumstandard, text was analyzed mainly for the content system, writing style, the setting of the studysection and researching activities. And the author finally drew a conclusion of the characteristicsin the text writing. Then, the author referred to the theory and practice research at home andabroad, combined the characteristics of biological course and the course standard. Shedetermined the biological teaching evaluation of four dimensions, namely knowledge dimension,ideological and cultural connotation of the dimension, the psychological law of developmentdimension, compile level dimension. On the basis of these, she determined18standards for theevaluation. The author designed a questionnaire about the usage of biology textbooks of juniorhigh school, and conducted a survey to the front-line biology teachers. The statistics was made toanalyze the teachers’ attitude and views in the process of usage.Through research, the author found the biology textbook of junior high school the following advantages: emphasis on inquiry-based learning, highlight the important concept ofteaching, and attention to the cultivation of students’ emotion, attitude and values, emphasis onthe education of science, technology and social relationships. At the same time, there were somedeficiencies: unreasonable structure arrangement, too simplified description, and lack of closecontact with other disciplines. In view of these, the author put forward some reasonablesuggestions: First of all, some knowledge points should be integrated, and the selection andpresentation of the contents should also conform to the characteristics of the discipline. Secondly,some material needs to increase description or explanation in order to increase the readabilityand facilitate students’ self-study. Finally, the relationship should be considered between biologyand the relevant subjects such as physics and chemistry and pay attention to interdisciplinary.
