For the higher medical education, educators must attach great importance to not only disseminating knowledge of medical science, but also cultivating medical humanistic spirits. At the beginning of 20 th century, the medical education that only imparted technology while ignoring the humanistic spirit was called “half-education” by some western renowned scholars. In China, the cultivation of medical humanistic spirit had a late start that it almost happened in recent years, which is reckoned on the basis of the reformation time of medical colleges. As it broke the ice under a series of governmental policies, it has high volatility and it is bounded to a certain degree. During the period of medical reformation, government mostly concentrated on the improvement of the existed curriculum system of humanities and social science. As a result, its effects on the medical humanistic spirit education were weak.The cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit refers to the practical results that generated by the cultivation of humanistic spirits. It correlates closely with the medical humanistic spirit cultivation purposes, the cultivation progresses and the cultivation results. The effectiveness is a crucial issue to the college cultivation of humanistic spirit. Without effectiveness, all educations will become meaningless.Medical education needs not just the cultivation of humanistic spirit, but the cultivation with effectiveness. At present, domestic researches on medical humanities mainly focus on the medical humanities education. Few studies pay attention to the cultivation of medical humanistic spirit, and studies on the effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit are fewer. For this reason, this essay will focus on the study from the prospective of effectiveness, and start with the value connotation of the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit. On the basis of “Effectiveness of Medical Humanistic Spirit Questionnaire”, the author will objectively make analysis for both the situation of the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit and the causes of issues that exist in the current medical humanities education, and ultimately present some appropriate strategies to improve the effectiveness from a value cognitive, value approbatory and value realized standpoint. The effectiveness study in the essay will be conducted from the prospective of education executors, educational institutions and educators, and will focus on methods to cultivate medics with full effectiveness.The first part of this essay mainly specifies the intention to this study. No matter from the prospective of doctor-patient, or the main part of medical humanistic spirit education, medical professor-medic, it can be found that the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit is unsatisfactory. Hence the effectiveness issues are worth paying attention to and investigating. Besides, this part contains current studies about this topic from both domestic and foreign scholars, innovation points of this essay andstatements of research methods.The second part unscrambles some relevant concepts about the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit theoretically, such as medical humanistic spirit, effectiveness and connotation of the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit. Simply speaking, the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit refers to the fit among expected objectives, cultivation progresses and cultivation results, so the extent to the completion of the three parties will affect the effectiveness of the cultivation. This part specifies the contemporary relevance of the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit as well. Enhancing the effectiveness of cultivation is conductive to the integrated development of medics and improvement of their professional abilities, and can help to establish a harmonious relationship between doctors and patients.The third part is a summary of current situation of the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit, which is based on the feedback on the case studies and empirical investigations. The author designed the “Effectiveness of Medical Humanistic Spirit Questionnaires” for the group of teachers and students, and sent them out to three medical colleges A, B and C. 151 teachers and 403 students completed the questionnaire,and about 50 of them were chosen to receive further interviews as individual cases. In this way, the acquaintance of current effectiveness situation will be in depth, objective and authentic. The research included the current situation of medical humanistic spirit cultivation and overall attitudes toward it, the judgement of educators’ work on the part of humanity, the evaluation of the effectiveness and advises to the improve the effectiveness. The conclusion from the case studies and empirical investigation is that the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit is unsatisfactory.In the fourth part, the author shows further analysis of the causes of the unsatisfactory result about the effectiveness on the basis of the current situation research. The reasons include some utilitarian purposes of medical humanistic spirit cultivation, tends to pay more attention to skills than mental education, the oversimplification of cultivation methods, the weakness of cultivation power and the formalization of cultivation assessment. These five terms of reasons jointly create the unexpected current situation of cultivation effectiveness.The fifth part throws out some suggestions on the improvement of the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit, in the light of the unexpected current situation of cultivation effectiveness and its causations. These suggestions are proposed from the prospective of the value realization processes of cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit, which contain three terms of contents, transforming the value cognition, leading the cultivation effectiveness; deepening the value approbation,promoting the cultivation effectiveness; actualizing the value realization, implementing the cultivation effectiveness of medical humanistic spirit.
