In present Chinese education system, the exam is still an effective method for studentevaluation and selection. Faced with various exams, senior students often feel upset and anxious.Moderate test anxiety can really make students improve their grades, while excessive test anxietyis not beneficial for students. Excessive test anxiety can not only lower senior students’ scores, but also damage their physical and mental health. At the very beginning, this thesis summarizes the present situation on research for testanxiety at home and abroad. Then, using TAS test anxiety inventory and self-made questionnairefor reasons for test anxiety, the author investigates senior students in each grade of a provinciallevel standardization school in Zaozhuang, Shandong province. After the investigation, theauthor finds that test anxiety is mainly affected by four factors: senior students themselves, family, school and society. In the following part, a number of factors are analyzed in detail.Firstly, as far as senior students are concerned, present academic performance, learning ability, recognition for the importance of tests, examination skills, failure experiences, physical healthcan lead to test anxiety in some extent. Secondly, parents also promote the growth of test anxiety. On the one hand, parents pay more attention to test scores and expect too much from theirchildren. On the other hand, parents’ bad tempers and outdated concepts of education can affectstudents’ mentality to examination greatly. Thirdly, the school’s outdated examination-orientedmode and single score-based evaluation system make senior students feel uneasy and anxiouslong before the examinations. What’s more, disharmonious relationship between teachers andsenior students as well as tight exam atmosphere aggravates the symptoms of test anxiety. Thelast but not the least, the society greatly contributes to the growth of test anxiety. Excessiveattention, single evaluation criteria for talents and employment difficulties put pressure to seniorschool students, damaging their physical and mental health. In view of the above unfavorable factors, the author finds relevant solutions one by one. Firstly, senior students should adapt themselves actively to the examinations, for instance, takingmore exercise to strengthen their physique and forming a correct understanding of their ability tobuild up confidence. As senior students, they should adopt an active attitude to study and faceexaminations correctly. After exams, senior students had better find the reasons for failure calmlyand then their grades will be improved gradually. Thirdly, schools need to guide senior highstudents actively and correctly. On one hand, schools might as well pay more attention tostudents’ individual characteristics. On the other hand, the present examination form andevaluation system should be reformed. By taking these reforms, multiple-education can berealized truly. In the process of learning, teachers are not only supposed to instruct good learningmethods and examination skills, but also strengthen the education of psychological health. As faras schools are concerned, they should organize colorful after-school activities to lower students’test anxiety. At last, the society can also be of great help to high school education. Throughadvocating a positive public opinion and a comprehensive evaluation of talents, the society candecrease the learning pressure of senior high students effectively. Providing that the societyexpands the channels of employment, it really benefits a lot to reduce test anxiety from majorexams. Active adaptation of senior students along with joint efforts made by families, schoolsand society, test anxiety can be relieved gradually. At the same time, senior students can develophealthily both in mind and body.
