Teacher profession is generally divided into three stages: teacher training stage,career education stage, and career continued education stage. New career stage isconsidered to be the key point. Novice teacher study has always been an importantstudy direction of teacher profession study system.This article combines the characteristic of stage and subject to study theimprovement of novice teacher’s ability. It would enrich novice teacher’s careereducation study. The method of case study offers first hand reference for relatedstudies which has important practical significance.The study method would be case study of three teachers’ teaching abilitydevelopment. In each case, the author choose to focus on elements which influencetheir teaching ability, such as basic information, teaching intern&training, idealteacher type, teaching element, teaching experience, teaching study&summarizing,relationship between teacher, students and parents, and future career plan. Theauthor organizes and analysis these information in two directions. One direction wouldbe considering each teacher as individual for analysis via SWOT method. By listingeach individual’s advantage, disadvantage, opportunity and threatens, come up withcombined strategy for each. The second direction would be considering three teachersas a group with common feature. The analysis of common feature would be based onteaching ability elements, such as teaching recognition, teaching design, teachingpractice and teaching reflection.With the deep analysis of interview, the most important elements influencingnovice Chinese teacher’s teaching ability can be reduced to two parts. One of themwould be the singleness of education career training. All three interviewed teacherscomplaint the minimal effect of career training and the high barrier of attending openclasses as a novice teacher. Teacher with three years’ experience are not allowed toparticipant in open class evaluation. Lacking opportunity of exchanging teachingexperience and practicing teaching ability go against the improvement of one’steaching ability.The second part would be the shortage of teacher themselves.Inexperience of managing student, no significant teaching feature and less attentionon teaching reflection are things need to be perfected by novice Chinese teachers.Base on the result, the author thinks that improving novice teacher’s teachingability should be practice through two directions. On one hand, reform the careertraining. Strengthen the institutional guarantee of novice teacher and optimizetraining subjects. At the same time, using open class and combining teaching sourcesfrom outside schools to promote the development of teaching ability. On the otherhand, teachers should build up managing experience by understanding students,managing student respectively and continued observation. At the same time, teachersshould build up their own teaching characteristic and improve themselves in practicalexperience. |
