With the widespread implementation of the new curriculum reform, quality education has become much popular among people. Mathematical education is becoming more focused on the bilateral unified mathematical activities that take the student as the main body while teachers as the leader. The curriculum standard for ordinary high school mathematics has put forward that in the process of the mathematics teaching, students’ learning activity should not be restricted to receiving, memory, imitation and practice. Likewise, the mathematical concepts should not be restricted to formal expression but should be extended to the understanding of the nature. High school mathematics should reveal the development process and the essence of the mathematical concept. Through analyzing typical examples and doing independent exploration, students will understand the formation process of the mathematical concept as well as the thinking method.Under the guidance of relevant researches, the author takes high school students and teachers in Haikou as the research object, choosing the effective questionnaires to investigate the present situation of high school students’ mathematical concept learning, and teachers’ teaching way as well as the causes. At the same time, classes survey and individual interview are also included to get a more scientific and comprehensive understanding of the present situation of mathematical concept teaching in high schools. Besides, whether the difficulties in learning mathematical concept are a widespread phenomenon and the causes are also to be explored. According to the studies on how to carry on mathematical concept teaching in Haikou high schools as well as the teaching status quo and the causes, the author aims to provide some suggestions for improvement.This paper consists of the following three chapters:The first chapter: This section discusses the background and reasons for the subject. By analyzing the literature on the mathematical concept teaching in high schools, the subject is set up with detailed introduction on the research content, purpose, ideas and methods.The second chapter: Questionnaire survey method and interview method are used to investigate the mathematical concept teaching and learning situations in Haikou high schools.Detailed introductions about the implementation process and content are included, which isfollowed by a detailed analysis and reflection on the result of the investigation.The third chapter: After a series of lectures, classes, evaluation and research activities,and studies on the real classroom, the problems existing in the mathematical concept teaching are found. By reflecting and designing mathematical concept teaching method which is also compared with different teachers’ teaching cases, the research provides a factual basis for mathematical concept teaching in high school. With the analysis and summary of the findings,this chapter is going to put forward some suggestions in view of the problems in mathematical concept teaching in Haikou high schools, which mainly attaches great importance to the preview, the process to introduce the concept, the formation process, teachers’ mathematical literacy and small class teaching.
