Mentally retarded students of school for the mental retardation refers to intelligence of mentally retarded students attending to school for the mental retardation significantly lower than the general intelligence level, and show adaptation the behaviors.The development of addition and subtraction thinking of mentally retarded students is directly related to mathematics learning, an independent life, integrating the society, and affecting the quality of life. How to improve the addition and subtraction thinking level of mentally retarded students and learn simple addition and subtraction is the important issue that mathematics education faces in the current society-adaptation education.This research adopts test method and observation method, using the self-made "performance tests of mentally retarded students in addition and subtraction thinking”, applying real subtraction operation within 5, 10 and 20, Oral application problems,Column type application problems, and 153 mentally retarded students were tested;Using the self-made " Performance observation table of mentally retarded students’ addition and subtraction thinking” to observe the accuracy, reaction time and migration of each topic and thus to Evaluate the accuracy, agility, flexibility, thinking performance of addition and subtraction, to observe the use of language, action performance and attention in order to examine their behaviors related to thinking quality. So we can study the addition and subtraction thinking performance of mentally retarded students. The conclusions are as follows:1. Mentally retarded students have high accuracy in physical operation, seniors, low difficulty operation subject; and have high agility in column type operation, seniors, low difficulty operation subject; but have poor flexibility in addition and subtraction.2. Mentally retarded students need more language support when answer difficult oral word problems; and need more action auxiliary when answer a difficult subtraction column type; but have poor attention when answer difficult oral word problems and column type operation.We can get the following education suggestions according to the above conclusion:create environment and promote the development of mentally retarded students’ operation thinking; Optimize teaching and enrich mentally retarded students’ sensory experiences; Set up situation to help the mentally retarded students master operation rule; Strengthen the practices to improve the ability of mentally retarded students’ addition and subtraction.
