With the development of our national economy and the improvement of international position, our requirements to citizens’ English levels become higher and higher. Senior high school English teaching is an important period to improve students’ English quality and to meet needs of national demands for practical talents. However,high school English teaching actually faces many problems. For instance, what we learn in the English class loses touch with application in society; the situation of English class is inconsistent with English curriculum standard; exam-oriented teaching still takes the dominate position and students’ English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills are serious imbalance.Facing the above questions in English teaching, the author proposes to apply Retelling Strategy that aims at improving high school students’ English learning ability and exploring a new teaching module which is different from traditional one. It can mobilize students’ learning passion and foster their creativity. Under the guidance of teacher, learners can construct their own knowledge by Retelling Strategy so that they can acquire improvement of comprehensive language abilities. Finally, students can gain self-confidence and achievement through the promotion of grades and abilities. Retelling Strategy mainly bases on Krashen’s Input Theory; Merrill Swain’s Output Theory and Piaget’s Constructivist Theory. They emphasize comprehensive input and output meanwhile advocate that students are the subjects of information processing and learning.For exploring the application of Retelling Strategy in English teaching, the author carries out the teaching experiment for nearly 19 weeks in the two parallel classes of Panjin Second Senior High School. Through two tests、two questionnaires and an interview to teachers, the author tries to answer the following three questions: 1) Can Retelling Strategy arouse students’ interests in learning English? 2) Can the application of Retelling Strategy improve students’ English levels? 3) Is Retelling Strategy effective on developing students’ comprehensive language application ability?Through Data analysis with software SPSS19.0 and classroom teaching, the author confirms that Retelling Strategy can both help students to enhance English levels and interests in learning. Meantime, it can also promote students’ comprehensive abilities in English usage and help them to acquire development in all-round spontaneously.
