| Based on the Media Dependency Theory and the Uses and Gratification Theory, this thesis explores the college students’ mobile usage in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. During the research process, 1025 questionnaires have been collected and 20 respondents have been interviewed.In the first part, the study analyzes the overall condition of the college students’ mobile media usage in Ningxia through significance test and regression analysis. The second part explores and identifies the motives of students’ mobile media usage. In the third part, the impacts mobile media usage has on college students have been discussed from both positive and negative aspects. In the last part, several suggestions have been made accordingly.This study finds that, firstly, mobile media has been widely used in Ningxia college students’ life; and there is a dependency-prone among the respondents. Secondly, individual human needs, the desire of self-presenting, instinct desire, and the characteristics of the youth are the intrinsic factors for mobile media usage. Moreover, features of mobile media, the current New Media environment and the indifference of interpersonal relationship offline are the external factors for this phenomenon. Besides, affective factor is a special reason for Ningxia college students’ mobile media usage the research identifies. The results of this study verify that the mobile media has influences on the interpersonal communication, school work and physical and psychological health of college students in Ningxia. |
